Job summary

State of Connecticut in the DMV Fiscal Services Division seeks a Payroll Clerk in Wethersfield, CT to manage payroll and benefits processing, maintain compliance, and strengthen internal controls. You will audit payroll data, maintain organized records, and deliver reliable customer service in a fast-paced environment.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with standard DMV hours, Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week, and opportunities to grow professional skills within a state agency.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in bookkeeping, accounts payable or clerical work involving finances.
  • One year of payroll preparation required.
  • College training may substitute for General Experience (15 semects = 1/2 year) up to 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll and benefit transactions.
  • Review and reconcile payroll and benefit data for accuracy.
  • Maintain audit-ready records and documentation.
  • Enter payroll updates (W-4s, direct deposits, deductions, retirement contributions).
  • Prepare payroll reporting and documentation using Excel and Word.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding paychecks and payroll procedures.
