Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Manager to lead multi-state payroll and benefits operations in a hybrid work environment. This highly visible role partners with leadership to drive process improvements and automation while ensuring compliance across states.

You will mentor a payroll team, own payroll controls and reporting, manage retirement/401(k) programs, and serve as the subject matter expert on payroll, benefits, and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience managing payroll across multiple states.
• Proven leadership in payroll, benefits, or HR.
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, garnishments.
• Experience supporting both exempt and non-exempt employee groups.
• Ability to drive automation and process improvements.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead accurate and timely payroll processing for a large, multi-state employee population.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and reporting requirements.
• Oversee payroll taxes, garnishments, deductions, audits, reconciliations, and related compliance activities.
• Administer employee benefits programs, including retirement and 401(k) plans.
• Partner with HR, Finance, and operational leaders to support business and employee needs.
• Identify and implement opportunities for automation, process improvements, and system enhancements.
• Develop payroll controls, reporting processes, and documentation standards.
• Mentor and develop payroll and benefits team members.

Qualifications for the Payroll & Benefits Manager

Required Qualifications

• Multi-state payroll management experience.


• Experience overseeing payroll for large employee populations.


• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, garnishments, and payroll compliance.


• Experience supporting both exempt and non-exempt employee groups.


• Proven leadership experience within payroll, benefits, or HR functions.


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Paylocity or similar HRIS/payroll platforms.


• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.


• Experience administering employee benefits and retirement plans.


• Experience supporting a growing or multi-site organization.
