Job summary

DBMG is seeking a Payroll Analyst in Phoenix to provide hands-on payroll expertise, ensuring compliance with union reporting, payroll tax research, and audit support. The role collaborates with payroll, HR, and accounting teams to resolve issues and maintain accurate payroll data.

Ideal candidates bring at least 2 years of related experience, strong Excel skills, and an understanding of federal, state, local, and union payroll requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of related payroll experience; payroll tax experience preferred.
  • Union payroll processing or reporting experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll practices, regulations, and compliance at federal, state, local, and union levels.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for union payroll activities, including review of collective bargaining agreement application, payroll system setup, deductions, benefits, and related reporting.
  • Prepare, review, and track union reports, certified payrolls, and remittance documentation.
  • Partner with payroll analyst and payroll manager to support payroll tax analysis, reconciliations, including quarterly and year-end tax filings, liability account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Conduct internal reviews of specific or irregular payroll items such as per diem, allowances, garnishments, etc.
  • Assist with operational payroll activities, analysis, and follow-up on complex or time-sensitive items.
  • Support quarter-end and year-end payroll close processes, including W‑2 validation, audit support, and documentation.
  • Partner with Payroll, Human Resources, Accounting, and external vendors to research and resolve payroll compliance issues.
  • Maintain clear documentation to support reconciliations, audits, and ongoing payroll compliance operations.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive payroll and employee data.
  • Participate in the implementation of new and revised payroll reporting by analyzing department policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Perform other payroll-related duties and projects as assigned.

As the Payroll Analyst at DBMG, you'll provide hands‑on payroll expertise to assist with compliance related to union reporting, payroll tax research and audit support. The role includes problem‑solving and communications with payroll, human resources and accounting departments.

Work Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience, payroll tax experience preferred.
  • Union payroll processing or reporting experience preferred.
Education & Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • CPP or FPC certification preferred.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll practices, regulations, and compliance requirements at the federal, state, local, and union levels.
  • Union payroll experience preferred, including familiarity with collective bargaining agreements, union deductions, and reporting requirements.
  • Advanced Excel skills required, including pivot tables, lookups, moderately complex formulas, reconciliations, and data analysis to support payroll analytics, audits, and project work.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain payroll concepts clearly to team members, managers, and external partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Comfortable working in a deadline‑driven environment.

Work Environment

Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position. This position is indoors and may sit for long periods of eight (8) hours or more per day. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
