Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a Payroll Operations professional to join the Payroll Shared Services team in Livonia, MI. You will support accounting, compliance, and processing across multi-state payrolls, ensuring accuracy and timely execution.

The role requires strong analytical skills, system proficiency (Workday, Kronos, ADP), and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Must have 3–5 years of payroll experience or an Associate's degree with related work experience.
  • Experience in multi-entity and multi-state payroll, payroll tax rules, garnishments, and internal controls.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities; able to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Excel and payroll systems like Workday/Kronos/ADP.

Responsibilities

  • Support accounting and compliance activities for payroll operations as part of the Trinity Health Payroll Shared Services team.
  • Provide or coordinate training for ministry and central payroll team members.
  • Serve as the primary vendor contact for resolving data and processing issues.
  • Work with Regional Health Ministry teams to ensure accuracy of employee payroll data and processing information.
  • Analyze and monitor payroll functions including tax setup/withholding, banking, garnishments, and general processing.
  • Support vendor and internal department relationships for auditing, procedure implementation, accurate withholdings, processing, and payments.
  • Educate payroll colleagues on processes and deadlines, and upscale issues as appropriate.
  • Ensure payroll-cycle activities including tax, benefits, wage attachment, banking, reconciliation, auditing, and transmission are accurate and timely.
  • Complete quarter-end and year-end payroll activities and assist Regional Health Ministry Payroll Managers with compliance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with leadership on process-efficiency initiatives and continuous quality and service improvements.
  • Work with HR and TIS staff to resolve system and operational issues affecting payroll vendor information transfers.
  • Support the payroll production process.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and human resources information.
  • Participate in special projects involving system enhancements and quality improvements.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Associate's degree with major coursework in bookkeeping, accounting or related field or three (3) to five (5) years of comprehensive and progressively responsible payroll experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
  • Experience in a multi-entity and multi-state organization handling payroll and payroll processes, payroll tax and state reciprocity rules, garnishments, payroll-related regulatory compliance including FLSA, banking ACH/settlement, and internal controls for the payroll cycle, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Good oral and written communication skills; comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to develop methodologies for collecting, summarizing, analyzing, and evaluating data
  • Detail oriented and able to meet established deadlines; excellent follow through required
  • Strong personal computer skills, particularly Excel
  • Experience with Workday, Kronos timekeeping, and ADP tax services preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles
  • High degree of professionalism and customer focus
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Highly motivated self-starter with good judgment, tact, and diplomacy
  • Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment
