Job summary

Wiregrass Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced Paving Machine Operator to join our paving crew in a fast-paced construction environment. The ideal candidate will operate asphalt paving equipment and produce high-quality work while maintaining a safe, efficient site.

Experience with pavers, screeds, rollers, brooms, and milling machines is preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to pass a drug screen are required; OSHA safety compliance is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating asphalt paving equipment.
• Experience operating multiple paving pieces: pavers, screeds, rollers, brooms, and milling machines.
• Ability to read grade stakes, paving plans, and project specifications is preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate various asphalt paving equipment, including: Asphalt Paver, Screed, Asphalt Roller, Power Broom, Milling Machine.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment.
• Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
• Maintain proper paving grade, slope, and mat quality while following project specifications.
• Coordinate with foremen, truck drivers, and other crew members to ensure efficient paving operations.
• Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and general job site preparation.
• Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and traffic control procedures.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
• Assist with other construction-related duties as assigned.

• Ability to read and understand grade stakes, paving plans, and project specifications is preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Climb on and off heavy equipment throughout the workday.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.
• Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends, when required.
• Tolerate exposure to heat, dust, asphalt fumes, noise, and changing weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience on DOT, municipal, commercial, and private paving projects.
• Experience with GPS or automated grade control systems.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
