The H&K Group, Inc. is seeking a Paving Crew Laborer in Maryland (Finksburg) to join our division.

The role involves performing paving and utility tasks on construction projects, with responsibilities ranging from setting up lines to directing equipment and ensuring grade accuracy. Ideal candidates will have a 1-year certificate or 6 months of related experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to follow detailed instructions.

Qualifications

• Ability to meet physical requirements and wear PPE as needed.

Responsibilities

• Acquire tools needed for daily operations.
• Measure distances, drive stakes, and set lines.
• Bolt, nail, align, and support forms.
• Signal operators to align and position machinery.
• Level earth to grade specifications.
• Position, join, and seal pipe sections.
• Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
• Paving duties including pre-run markings and grading for compaction.
• Shovel asphalt and direct traffic around work area.

Overview

Maryland Division/HTI, a division of The H&K Group, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Paving Crew Laborer to become a part of our team. Usually performing their duties in a utility capacity, the position entails working on construction projects, often transferring from one task to another whenever the situation requires.

Responsibilities

• Acquires tools needed for daily operations
• Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
• Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
• Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
• Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections.
• Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.

• Paving Duties:
  • Assists with pre-run markings
  • Uses a paving lute to fine grade before roller man compacts
  • Operates vibratory plate as needed
  • Shovels asphalt as required
  • Direct traffic around work area as required

Qualifications

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

• One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school OR six months of related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
• Problem solving
• Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
• Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience

• Two years of related experience and/or training
• Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries
• OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
