Job summary

The City of Covington is seeking Police Officers to perform general police work including protection of life and property, enforcement of laws, and investigation of crimes on a rotating shift. Officers must exercise sound judgment in emergencies and work with little supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus a two-year college degree or related training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be 21 years or older and possess a valid state driver’s license.
• Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within seven years are not allowed; U.S. citizen; able to read/write English; good moral character.

Responsibilities

• Patrol city streets, parks, and other areas to preserve peace and enforce the law.
• Respond to emergencies, investigate accidents, robberies, and disturbances; summon assistance as needed.
• Interrogate suspects, witnesses, and drivers; preserve evidence and arrest violators.
• Prepare incident and other reports; provide testimony in court; maintain required records.
• Train other officers as a field training officer (FTO) up to 11 weeks.
