Job summary

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office seeks a Deputy I to perform general duty law enforcement across the county. Duties include patrolling, responding to incidents, investigating crimes, serving papers, and providing courtroom security. Additional assignments may include School Resource Officer duties and civil services work.

Essential functions cover citizen safety, report writing, and collaboration with local agencies. Requires basic law enforcement training and a NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and completion of basic law enforcement training.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license (or obtain before assignment to sworn duties).
• Possession of a Basic Law Enforcement Certification preferred.
• Possession of DCI certifications desired.
• Meet NC Sheriff's Training & Standards Commission requirements for certified officers.

Responsibilities

• Patrols the County in a vehicle and handles civil and criminal papers.
• Responds to calls and manages incidents with appropriate action.
• Investigates crimes, makes arrests, and presents findings in court.
• Serves warrants, apprehends suspects, and transports to detention.
• Provides courtroom security and may coordinate with juries and defendants.
• Possibly serves as School Resource Officer and supports campus safety.
• Maintains communications equipment and completes detailed activity reports.
• Assists other agencies in emergencies and informs the public about laws.
