Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital is seeking a part-time Patient Transporter for a 20-hour-per-week evening schedule at Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest. The role requires transporting patients, verifying identities, and ensuring safe movement and handling of equipment in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, and BLS certification within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS through American Heart Association (or within 90 days of employment) preferred.
• Preferred: 1 year experience with patient transport handling.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients as assigned.
• Verify patient identity with two identifiers.
• Prepare and adjust transport equipment for patient safety and comfort.
• Disinfect equipment between transports.
• Assist patients onto transport equipment and support as needed.
• Maintain and report equipment conditions.
• Notify nursing/ancillary staff on patient arrival/departure.
• Handle patient documents related to transport.
• Monitor patients for adverse symptoms during transport.
• Follow infection control precautions and PPE usage.

The salary range for this position is $17.05 - $22.17 (Hourly Rate)

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

• This is a part time role at 20 hours per week located at Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest. The schedule is Monday to Thursday 6p to 11p. This role requires weekend rotation.

The Patient Transporter reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Specifically responsible for transporting patients as assigned.
• Responsible for verifying patient identity using two patient identifiers.
• Provide and adjust transport equipment for safety and comfort of the patient i.e., appropriate line, side rails.
• Required to disinfect/wipe down equipment with approved cleaning product between patient transports.
• Assist patients onto transport equipment. If patients need additional help, patient care should be asked to assist.
• Shows ownership over transport equipment, including routine cleaning, linen dressing and report an maintenance needs.
• Responsible for notifying nursing or ancillary personnel upon arrival or departure of patients.
• Attends to the care of documents relating to the patient e.g. ticket to ride.
• Reports immediately any unusual symptoms of patients i.e. fainting or shortness of breath during time of transport.
• Provides, moves and cares for transport equipment for the movement of patients.
• Utilizes appropriate infection control precautions including appropriate hand hygiene, proper PPE and follows isolation precautions to prevent infection.
• Responsible for safely transporting patient oxygen after being set up by clinician.
• Provides feedback to management regarding equipment conditions and availability.
• Other duties as assigned.
