Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health at RWJUH Somerset is seeking a Patient Transporter to move patients safely throughout the hospital during the day shift. You will operate the automated transport system, assist with transfers, and ensure patient dignity and infection control practices.

The role requires excellent customer service and reliable attendance, with weekend and holiday rotation as scheduled. Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site position with hourly pay in NJ.

• Previous patient transport experience preferred.

Job Overview:

Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties,

Essential Functions:

Maintains a level of attendance and punctuality to meet the demands of the job,

Reports to work in uniform, ID badge, pager, etc.

Transporting Patients

Advises the nurse, nurse manager or technician when they arrive on floor

Introduce yourself to the patient,

The transporter always checks the patient's ID band for the two identifiers before transporting the patient (Name and Date of Birth),

Assists the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versa

Use caution when rounding corners,

Ensures brakes are used when transferring from stretcher and/or wheelchair

Maintains confidentiality of patient information

Maintains safety of patients

Identifies appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and/or security

Recognizes and reports patient discomfort, distress or emergency situations to the nurse or technician,
