Job summary

Advocate Health is hiring for a Patient Transport role at Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago. The position is full-time (1.0 FTE) with a 1:30p-10p shift, every other weekend and holiday coverage required.

Primary duties include identifying the correct patient, selecting appropriate transport mode, and maintaining patient safety and privacy.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Some computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Identify proper patient to be transported by checking armband.
  • Ensure transport mode is appropriate to patient’s condition.
  • Ensure proper precautions for each patient (oxygen, I‑med, foley catheter, chest tube, etc).
  • Ensure patient privacy is protected.
  • Ensure oxygen tanks are filled daily.
  • Instruct and help new transport staff to be properly trained.
  • Relay pertinent patient information to supervisor or proper department/technician.
  • Inform supervisors/departments of any delays in getting patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, fire, safety, infection control, etc.
  • Ensure carts are clean and sheets are in place; report any cart or wheelchair issues.

$18.85 - $28.30

Major Responsibilities: Identify proper patient to be transported by checking armband

  1. Make sure mode of transport is appropriate to patient’s condition
  2. Make sure proper precautions are taken for each patient, i.e., oxygen, I-med, foley catheter, chest tube, etc
  3. Make sure patient is properly covered to protect their privacy
  4. Make sure oxygen tanks are filled daily.
  5. Instruct and help new transport staff so they are properly trained
  6. Make sure any pertinent patient information is relayed to supervisor or proper department/technician
  7. Make sure supervisor or departments are aware of any delays in getting patients
  8. Demonstrate a knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, fire, safety, infection control, etc. Review department manuals and sign-off supplement
  9. Make sure carts are clean and sheets are in place at all times. Report any cart or wheelchair that is not working properly and in need of repair

10)11. Be able to make film copies. 12. Look up and file patient folders; also write new folders out. 13. Should be able to deal with stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Skills in handling and operation of a variety of transportation equipment. - ability to tolerate prolonged walking or standing. - Ability to work weekend, holidays and different shifts in order to accommodate staffing needs. This position can recognize needs and behaviors of all age groups. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
