Job summary

Prisma Health’s Richland Hospital is seeking a Nursing Assistant / Patient Care Technician to support licensed nurses in delivering basic patient care. You will assist with feeding, mobility, hygiene, bathroom needs, and monitoring vital signs, under RN supervision. The role may involve tasks such as assisting with drawing blood or performing EKGs as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to complete unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
• BLS certification or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with feeding, including setting up meals and monitoring intake.
• Assist with ambulation and mobility, including fall prevention and use of assistive devices.
• Assist with elimination needs, including helping patients to the bathroom and monitoring inputs/outputs.
• Take and document vital signs; report abnormal values to the RN.
• May perform skilled duties such as monitor tech, drawing blood, or performing EKGs as assigned.
• Assist with personal hygiene tasks and routine patient care.

Job Summary

Performs routine assistive tasks to assist the Registered Nurse to meet basic patient needs, unlicensed assistive personnel.

Essential Functions

• All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.

• Assists patients with needs related to nutrition and feeding. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with feeding, drinking, and setting up meal trays.

• Assists patients with needs related to ambulation. Duties include, but are not limited to, dangling, walking, walking with assistive device, and implementing fall prevention measures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

• Meets patients' needs related to elimination. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting patient with getting to the bathroom, using a bedside commode, using a bedpan, and/or using a urinal. Accurately monitors inputs and outputs.

• Completes and documents patient vital signs. Duties include assessing blood pressure, pulse, temperature, heart rate, and oxygenation via pulse ox or ETCO2. Reports abnormal values to the Registered Nurse.

• Performs additional skilled duties to include any of the following: Monitor Tech, Drawing Blood, or Performing EKGs.

• Assists patients with needs related to personal hygiene. Duties include, but are not limited to, bathing, washing hair, brushing teeth and hair, and washing hands.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - Completion of Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician or Medical Assistant program. Completion of additional skilled coursework (e.g., Phlebotomy or basic arrhythmia) or independent skill validation through Nursing Education, in drawing blood, EKG, or Cardiac Care Technician. High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.

• Experience - Previous nursing assistant, medical assistant or related experience preferred. One (1) year Hospital clerical experience is preferred.

In Lieu Of

• In lieu of completion of a nursing assistant or medical assistant training course, may accept completion of Nursing Fundamentals course.

• In lieu of school verification of a nursing assistant training course, may accept current or former state CN A certification as proof of completed state required training at time of hire.

• In lieu of school verification of a medical assistant training course, may accept current or former CMA certification as proof of completed required training at time of hire.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• Basic Life Support certification or higher preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to successfully complete unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
