Job summary

Dodge County Hospital is seeking a Patient Sitter to provide continuous, attentive observation and companionship to patients requiring supervision. You will stay with the patient, ensure safety, observe behavior, and promptly report concerns to nursing staff, while assisting with basic daily activities and Meals as needed.

Position type is Pool/PRN/Per Diem with days varying; requires a high school diploma or GED and current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily activities (mouth care, showers, meals, toileting).
• Position, lift/turn, transfer and ambulate patients as needed.
• Notify licensed staff if patient reports pain or changes in condition.
• Maintain patient safety and observe/record changes in condition.
• Attend patients during tests and procedures and provide education to patient and family.
• Prepare meals/assist with feeding and maintain clean meal areas.
• Document clear notes reflecting patient care and stay aligned with policies.
• Foster good relationships with staff and other departments.

Patient Sitter HOURS: Days/Hours Varies

The Patient Sitter provides continuous, attentive observation and companionship to patients who require additional supervision. The Patient Sitter remains with the assigned patient, maintains a safe environment, observes patient behavior and condition, and promptly reports changes or concerns to the assigned nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist the patient with minor daily activities such as mouth care, showers, meals, and restroom usage.
• Provides general care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, transferring patients, and assisting patients with ambulation.
• Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
• Accompanies patients for tests, procedures, etc. Is in constant attendance of the patient.
• Provides patient and family education.
• Prepares patients for meals, serves, and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patient if necessary. Removes all utensils except spoons.
• Reports and when appropriate, records any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient.
• Maintains a good working relationship with staff members and other departments of the facility.
• Demonstrates the ability to write clear, concise notes, simple charting that reflects patient care given.
• Adheres to all policies and procedures.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Education

• Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification. Current Basic Life Support Certification.

Experience

• Patient care experience preferred but not required.
