Job summary

Qualifications

• 6 months of customer service experience.
• 1-year clerical experience is preferred.
• Experience in cashier procedures and/or basic accounting, clinic check in/out procedures, basic health insurance, HMO, PPO, and basic medical terminology, general knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding.
• 6 months telephone customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Receiving and dispatching incoming phone calls.
• Collecting payments for copays and deductibles.
• Making financial arrangements for patients.
• Performing check in and out duties accurately and timely.
• Making appointments for visits and, if an emergency, informing a clinical employee or provider.
• Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits and recording the information in the medical record; completing referrals to specialty providers, home health, etc.
• Accurately entering patient demographics into the practice management system.
• Taking messages when answering the telephone, correctly spelling names and identifying patient by two patient identifiers according to National Patient Safety Goals.
• Taking clear and concise messages from pharmacies, physicians and hospital personnel; directing the message to the Clinical employee and/or Provider.
• Managing large call volume while maintaining excellent telephone etiquette.
• Organizing workflow to meet patient needs in a timely manner.
