Job summary

Avera Brookings Clinic is seeking a friendly front desk receptionist to greet patients, register them, verify demographics and insurance, and collect payments. The role is based in Brookings, SD, with day shift hours Monday through Friday.

You will manage insurance verifications, obtain authorizations, scan records, answer calls, schedule appointments, and help coordinate nurse, physician, and patient time to accelerate care. High school diploma or equivalent required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or 1–3 months related experience.
  • Strong communication and phone etiquette; able to work the specified hours.
  • Ability to verify demographics, insurance, and collect service payments.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients, checks them in, and completes registration including demographics and insurance.
  • Verifies insurance, authorizations, and gets consent/waivers as appropriate.
  • Scans pertinent information into the patient’s record.
  • Answers/calls/messages/faxes and routes to appropriate departments.
  • Maintains computer appointment scheduling and follows office scheduling policies.
  • Expedites delivery of care by coordinating nurse, physician, and patient time; directs patients to ancillary services.

A Brief Overview

Works in the various reception areas throughout the Clinic and is responsible for helping the patients to access the Clinic’s system for care.

What you will do
  • Welcomes patients, checking them in and completing registration which includes verifying demographics, insurance and collection of any service payments.
  • Responsible for insurance verifications, authorizations and getting consent and waiver forms signed as appropriate.
  • Responsible for scanning all pertinent information into the patient’s record.
  • Answers and addresses calls, messages and/or faxes, routing them to appropriate individuals/departments if needed.
  • Maintains computer appointment scheduling and follows office scheduling policies/parameters.
  • Expedites delivery of care by coordinating nurse, physician, and patient time. Acts as public relations agent for the physicians by serving the patients in a friendly, efficient manner. Directs patients to ancillary services as needed.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
  • High School or GED Equivalent or 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
