Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Services Representative for the McHenry Pediatrics clinic. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a Monday–Friday schedule at the McHenry location. You will handle patient registration, insurance verification, co-pays, and scheduling in a fast-paced medical office.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• 0–2 years of customer service experience is required.
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• 1–3 years of physician office experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and registers them, verifies insurance and collects co-pays and balances.
• Updates patient demographic information and schedules appointments.
• Answers calls and directs or documents patient communications.
• Coordinates scheduling of outpatient tests as needed.
• Serves as liaison between patient and practice and provides backup scheduling support.
• Ensures patient information is handled confidentially and accurately.

The salary range for this position is $18.84 - $24.49 (Hourly Rate).

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

• This is a Full Time position at 40 hours per week located at the McHenry clinic for Pediatrics specialty. Schedule is Monday through Friday.

The Patient Services Representative reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

• Performs customer service functions in the medical practice office. Ensures highest level of customer service is provided to the patients and company representatives over the phone and in person. Performs business office responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients as they enter the office. Obtains required patient information and performs patient registration, including verifying insurance information and collecting co-pays and outstanding balances.
• Obtains and updates patient demographic information and company information from all patients.Answers phone and schedules appointments.
• Directs and documents patient calls as appropriate.
• Coordinates scheduling of outside testing for patients.
• Serves as liaison between patient and practice.
• Provides back-up for scheduling appointments.
• Performs all aspects of daily work in a manner which contributes to and ensures an environment of patient safety and confidentiality.
• Completes daily reconciliation report to assure charges have been entered correctly.
• Pulls charts and readies them for the next day appointments; files completed patient charts daily.
• Files test/procedure results inpatient's medical record after physician has signed off on the results.
• Liaisons with company representatives or potential employees to assure correct services are provided.
• Reviews Epic chart prior to patient appointments making sure consents are within the past 12 months and the insurance card is current.
• Responds to all medical record requests from patients, insurance companies, physician offices, subpoenas, and legal requests per protocol.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience in a customer service position.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree.
• One to three years prior Physician office experience required
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
