Patient Service Specialist - OB/GYN Mobile - Full Time
Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Travels to other Guthrie facilities; works on the Mobile bus and in office.
The Patient Service Specialist provides direct daily operational front‑office support in a manner consistent with Guthrie Medical Group's Service Excellence Standards. They continually demonstrate patient centeredness, teamwork, and excellence in daily performance.
Essential Functions
- Greet every patient courteously, professionally, and timely.
- Answer telephones efficiently in accordance with Guthrie's Telephone Standards; screen calls, take messages, and provide information.
- Schedule and maintain all patient appointments electronically; verify information at the time of scheduling and assign B# / MRN to new patients; edit appointment schedule as directed by practice management.
- Register patients; review, verify, and correct demographic and insurance information; scan current insurance cards into the confidential medical record.
- Verify eligibility for major insurance carriers (including New York and Pennsylvania Medical Assistance) to ensure accurate billing; complete insurance forms, pre‑certifications, and referrals.
- Inform, quote, and collect copayments, deductibles, deposits, or unpaid balances at registration as per organizational policies and guidelines.
- Perform daily cash‑out and balancing in accordance with the Patient Cash Control Policy.
- Serve as liaison between patients, physicians, hospital staff, and other departments, keeping everyone informed of necessary information and any delays.
- Adhere to departmental and organizational policies and attend required meetings/huddles.
- Prioritize daily tasks in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment within a strong team structure.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA compliance.
- Assist with and complete projects or duties as assigned, including participation in quality initiatives.
Experience
Demonstrated customer service commitment in a fast‑paced environment with a minimum of 1 year experience in a related field, preferred. Medical office experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must be comfortable with computers and learning new applications.
Education
High School Diploma or GED. Current valid driver’s license required.
The pay ranges from $17.34–$23.96 per hour.
Other duties as assigned.
