Job Overview

Teche Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center, is seeking a Patient Service Representative I for its Morgan City location. The position is full‑time, based in Morgan City, LA, and requires a commitment to community health and patient confidentiality.

Job Summary

Performs activities related to the intake and exit of patients in the medical facility. Gathers accurate information from clients and correctly inputs this information into the medical information system while respecting and maintaining the confidentiality of the organization, patients, and personnel.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and verify the accuracy of demographic information for each visit
  • Obtain accurate financial information, including total household members and income, from patients
  • Obtain appropriate signatures on consent forms, acknowledgment statements, profile sheets, and other required forms
  • Collect and verify Medicare, Medicaid, and third‑party insurance information (verification via CGM PM system, telephone, or internet)
  • Input all demographic and financial information into the Organization’s Patient Management System
  • Inform patients of their sliding fee percentage based on the approved sliding fee discount scales
  • Collect and post all minimum fees, private pay payments, and private insurance copayments at the time of service
  • Collect and post all private pay payments on account
  • Post all encounters daily (Medicare, Medicaid, Private Pay, and Private Insurance)
  • Complete deposit ticket, place funds in money bag, fill out money voucher, copy checks, print reports, and submit receipts
  • Assist with accounting duties at end of day
  • Schedule appointments, including return, rescheduled, telephone, and hospital follow‑up referrals
  • Answer all incoming telephone calls and check voice messages and email twice daily
  • Return all voicemail calls within 48 hours
  • Distribute and educate patients on rights, responsibilities, complaint process, and advance directives
  • Distribute healthcare questionnaires for completion on every visit
  • Have patients sign authorization release forms for each facility they visit
  • Call patients to remind them of upcoming clinic appointments and behavioral health packet requirements
  • Complete daily statistical reports and submit to supervisor
  • Assist patients with account information and balance inquiries
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience in a doctor’s office or hospital environment is preferred; medical terminology knowledge is a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of multicultural groups and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Licensure or ability to obtain licensure when required by background credentialing
Communication Ability
  • Excellent communication skills for instruction and accurate documentation
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, families, visitors, government agencies, and the public
Math Ability
  • Basic math skills
Reasoning Ability
  • Skill in analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action
  • Skill in time management
Computer Skills
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the internet
  • Education/training or experience in computer basics and data entry
  • Skill in utilizing computers and data entry to generate reports
