Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Safety Technician to monitor and support patients during overnight shifts. The role involves bedside presence, de-escalation when needed, hazard identification, and assisting with activities of daily living as directed by the supervising RN.

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and BLS certification within 90 days of hire. The schedule includes three 8-hour shifts weekly (11p–7:30a), with every other weekend and rotating holidays as

Responsibilities

• Remains at bedside of assigned patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
• Provides calming and reorienting conversation with patient in cases of agitation or confusion.
• Identifies and removes hazards from the patient and patient's environment, and reports as appropriate.
• May assist patient with activities of daily living, as delegated by supervising RN.
• Provides continuous safety observation via continuous video monitoring for patients at risk of injury.
• Remotely monitors multiple patients via continuous video monitoring and summons staff when appropriate.

Description

The schedule for this position is three 8-hour shifts per week 11p - 7:30a with every other weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) and rotating holidays throughout the year required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Remains at bedside of assigned patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
• Provides calming and reorienting conversation with patient in cases of patient’s agitation or confusion.
• Identifies and removes hazards from the patient and patient's environment, and reports as appropriate.
• May assist patient with performing activities of daily living, as delegated by supervising RN, including ambulating, toileting, assisting with bed making, positioning.
• Provides continuous safety observation via continuous video monitoring, of patients identified to be at risk for causing injury to themselves or to others. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: offering basic comfort measures to help the patient relax and addressing the emotional needs of specific patients served, including the use of encouragement, distraction, coping strategies, cognitive stimulation activities, and de-escalation techniques within the scope of this role as appropriate.
• Remotely monitors multiple patients via continuous video monitoring. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing effective verbal redirection of designated remote continuous observation patients from engaging in risk behaviors and summoning appropriate staff via communication device/STAT Alert Alarm when appropriate.
