Job summary

UVM Health - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital is seeking a Patient Safety Assistant to monitor patients under RN supervision and provide constant observation for safety. You will communicate clearly, document diligently, and support a harmonious team environment in a computerized medical setting.

The role requires high school completion, some medical setting experience, and completion of PMCS training during orientation. CPR competency and basic computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; read, write and comprehend medical terminology.
• Experience in a medical/clinical setting preferred.

A Patient Safety Assistant monitors assigned patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Patient Safety Assistant provides constant observation to patients who may be in danger of harming themselves or acting in an unsafe manner. Patient Safety Assistants offer hands on in the moment assistance to the patient and other staff members when needed. It is critical that Patient Safety Assistants provide timely and accurate communication, documentation and maintain a harmonious, team oriented, customer friendly environment. Patient Safety Assistants must be able to function competently in a computerized medical setting.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent work experience, including ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology required.
• Previous experience in a medical/clinical setting is preferred.
• Meets requirements of pre-employment screening and physical is required.
• Successfully compete Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations (PMCS) training within the orientation/probation period is required.
• Must demonstrate competency to perform CPR and Heimlich Manuever.
• Must have the ability to use basic computer skills is required.
• Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, take direction and prioritize.
• Must work well as a team member.
• High level of sensitivity, interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication skills is required.
• As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of patients for which care is being provided.
