Position: Patient Safety Observer

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Schedule Details: Holidays - Every Other Holiday, Weekends - Every Other Weekend

Scheduled Hours: 3:00p - 11:30p

Shift: 2 - Evening Shift, 8 Hours (United States of America)

Hours: 32

Cost Center: 24050 - 2340 Emergency Room

Role Overview

The Patient Safety Observer provides continuous safety monitoring for assigned patients, ensuring their safety and comfort. Responsibilities include supporting patients with activities of daily living, engaging with patients appropriately, and documenting all care and concerns. Immediate reporting of issues to licensed staff is required.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain good human relations skills; introduce self to patients and engage respectfully.
  2. Observe for suicidal or violent behavior; stay in close proximity and keep patients in sight at all times.
  3. Monitor visitors to prevent sharing unsafe materials.
  4. Perform 15-minute checks with proper documentation.
  5. Monitor multiple patients if directed by licensed staff.
  6. Follow the instructions of the nurse in charge.
  7. Transport patients as directed.
  8. Assist with ancillary activities when not observing patients.
  9. Function in a float position, assigned based on patient needs.
  10. Maintain patient dignity and advocate for patients at all times.
Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification within 6 months of hire.

Experience/Skills:

  • Preferred: Previous healthcare experience.

Equivalent education and experience may be substituted where appropriate.
