Job summary

Presbyterian Healthcare Services is hiring a Safety Companion to monitor hospitalized patients at risk for safety and provide companionship. The role emphasizes alertness, adherence to safety policies, and coordination with nursing staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide safety and security for hospitalized patients, staying alert and communicating concerns to nursing staff.
• Assist patients with bathroom tasks and ADLs only when needed and capable.
• Engage patients in activities per care plan, including reading aloud and providing companionship.
• Provide appropriate physical and therapeutic care and assist with ADLs.
• Document care accurately in the medical record as directed by the Charge Nurse.

Work Shift: 12 Hour Days (United States of America)

Responsibilities:

• Provides safety and security support to the patient(s) while hospitalized, primarily by being aware, alert, present, and alerting nursing staff of concerns.
• Assists the client to the bathroom and around the unit ONLY if the client is able to ambulate and needs only minimal support and steadying. If client is in bed, assists client with needs and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
• Engaging patient in activities according to plan of care. Talks with, reads to, and provides companionship.
• Provide competent physical/therapeutic care and ADLs consistent with job title/role.
• Appropriate documentation in medical record as outlined by Charge Nurse.
• Remains in constant attendance of the client. Arranges scheduled breaks with RN.
• Adheres to all Safety Companion policies.
• Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding patients.
• Performs other functions as required.

Qualifications:

• High School/GED
• BLS required at time of hire
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Preferred: 1+ years experience in direct patient care.
• Certified Nursing Assistant, Nurse Tech, or other clinical support staff related to inpatient hospital setting preferred.
