Job summary

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Patient Navigator to support patients and families on campus in a non-clinical, welcoming role. This hourly position emphasizes calm, clear communication and compassionate service to reduce uncertainty during hospital stays.

The navigator will introduce patients to hospital processes, provide information, and escalate clinical needs to staff as required. A high school diploma is required, with additional education preferred.

Qualifications

  • Requires strong interpersonal communication for patient and family contact.
  • Experience in health care or hospitality is valued.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and independently in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a friendly, non-clinical guide for patients and families throughout the hospital stay.
  • Provide non-clinical information and connect with appropriate staff as needed.
  • Use translation tools to support diverse patient contacts and maintain confidentiality.

The Patient Navigator provides non-clinical materials and information to patients and families. The Patient Navigator will escalate patient-identified clinical needs to appropriate staff. This role requires exceptional interpersonal communication skills, an ability to work independently and sensitivity for vulnerable patients with medical conditions.Required Qualifications: Patient NavigatorMinimum of one year of experience in an active health care environment and/or minimum of two years of experience in an in-person hospitality role required. Consideration is also given to those with a minimum of two years of experience as a classroom educator.High school education or equivalent required. Strong interpersonal skills and capabilities, along with the ability to maintain a calming presence and work cross-functionally with others required.Ability and desire to interact directly with patients and their families during stressful situations required.Ability to utilize multiple communication methods, and flex communication style to meet different preferences and needs required.Willingness to use provided communication tools for translation required.Ability to work independently required.Ability to maintain confidential information required.A positive and supportive attitude that fosters a welcoming environment for patients and families required.Preferred Qualifications: Patient NavigatorAssociate’s degree preferred.Nebraska Medicine is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
