Job summary

Parkland Community Health Plan is seeking a Patient Financial Services Representative to perform patient registration, verify insurance, obtain precertifications, and provide initial financial counseling to support Parkland’s financial viability. The role includes engaging with patients in a fast-paced clinical setting at WISH Tower, with bilingual Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in hospital/clinical finance, registration, or related roles.
• Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology; hospital/healthcare terms.
• Experience with multiple computer systems (registration, accounting, imaging, payer sites).
• Bilingual Spanish preferred; strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients professionally and collect/verify demographic, financial, and insurance data.
• Enter patient information into registration/accounting systems and ensure accurate billing.
• Review accounts for financial status and refer cases to financial counseling or case management as needed.
• Educate patients on financial liabilities and appropriate collection practices.
• Perform cash reconciliation and secure payment entry per policy.
• Document actions clearly in account notes for cross‑department clarity.

Required to assist the hospital in the event of an internal or external disaster.* Obtain, verify, and update accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information in the process of registration. Including the entry of patient/guarantor information in the patient registration/accounting systems. Ensure accounts are billed accurately and timely. Guarantee that medical record numbers are not duplicated or overlays created.* Reviews patient accounts for financial status to identify non-funded and/or under-funded patients. Refers appropriate cases to financial counseling for follow-up and consultation and Case Management for clinical justification for pre-authorization as necessary.* Educate patients about financial liabilities, employs proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during and after date of service. Performs cash reconciliation and secured payment entry in adherence to financial and cash control policies and procedures.* Clearly document actions taken in account notes to ensure information is available and understandable for other departments to review. Tracks productivity/quality and provides cumulative reports daily, weekly and monthly as required. Ensures Patient Rights & Responsibilities as well as other required documents are properly explained and presented to patients.**Job Accountabilities*** Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction.
