Geisinger is seeking a full-time Patient Companion in Scranton, PA to provide 1:1 supervision, companionship, and support the care team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Eligible candidates receive a $1,500 sign-on bonus, a minimum hiring rate of $15.25 per hour, and a shift differential up to $3 per hour for evenings, nights, and weekends. The program also offers up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

The ideal candidate for this position is a highly motivated individual who is committed to delivering the highest quality care to our patients. They will demonstrate a strong ability to meet both the orientation and long-term full-time scheduling requirements of the role. Reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance are essential — this candidate consistently shows up on time and ready to contribute meaningfully each day. They are responsive and dependable, with excellent teamwork and communication skills that foster collaboration and support across the care team. A proactive and engaged presence is key to thriving in this role and ensuring exceptional patient outcomes. Provides a safe environment, companionship and supportive care for patients that require constant observation as identified by a nurse or physician. Maintains a safe environment for any patient requiring 1:1 supervision. Maintains constant observation of patient. Responsible to accompany the patient if he or she must leave the unit for reasons identified by the care provider.

• Maintain a safe, private, and comfortable therapeutic environment.
• Redirects impulsive and harmful behavior.
• Remain in clear sight of patient at all times, unless otherwise instructed by the nursing staff.
• Calls for assistance when unable to redirect patient or there is a potential for self-injury.
• Participate in report at the beginning and end of shift, making sure to inform pertinent information to Registered Nurse at the end of the shift.
• Accompany patient to all clinical tests, procedures, or appointments off the patient unit.
• Talks to the patient and use conversation to keep them focused.
• Assist patients with meals, when patient does not have swallowing precautions, or require carbohydrate counts.
• Assist with bed making.
• Activates bed alarms and and or chair alarms.
• Assists staff with walking patients.

Position Details

• Full Time, Days/Evenings Position (36 Hours/weekly)
• 3 - 12 hour shifts 7am - 7:30pm
• Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
