Qualifications

  • One (1)+ year experience in a medical setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications.
  • Detail oriented and professional.
  • Management and organizational skills to support leadership.
  • Ability to follow verbal & written instructions with proper grammar and spelling.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • English communication proficiency, both spoken and written.
  • Basic to intermediate computer operation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations including HIPAA.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatment.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Show patients to examination, procedure, or operative rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Record medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics and test results in medical records.
  • Ensure consent forms are obtained prior to procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocols.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing.
  • Explain treatments, medications, diets, wound care, and physician instructions to patients.
  • Assist physicians by handing instruments and performing tasks such as injections or sutures.
  • Authorize drug refills under provider direction and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
  • Prepare treatment rooms; keep them clean and organized.
  • Inspect sterile items and maintain sterile fields.
  • Assist with surgical procedures while maintaining sterile technique.
  • Assess patient condition and notify physician of distress.
  • Clean and sanitize rooms and equipment; restock supplies.
  • Dispose of infection waste and biohazard materials properly.
  • Schedule patient appointments and tests.
  • Change wound dressings.
  • Greet patients and coordinate with medical facilities for tests/admissions.
  • Inventory and order instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and document procedures promptly.
  • Respond to emergencies following nursing standards and facility policies.
  • Assist in medical emergencies and ensure proper documentation.
  • Inventory and order emergency supplies monthly.
