Job summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports continued delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the RN and performs tasks that do not require a license or professional judgment.

The PCT adheres to UAMS standards and guest care guidelines and must pass required competencies. Health, education and retirement benefits are offered for eligible staff at UAMS.

Qualifications

• High School, GED or equivalent required.
• Complete the patient care technician course within 3 months of employment.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Ambulatory care experience preferred.
• Health care experience and patient care experience required.
• Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient reports and communicate with RN regarding patient care or changes in condition.
• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Transport patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
• Carry out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.
• Communicate effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
• Follow directions from RNs and team members.
• Document all patient care activities, vital signs, ADL, I&O accurately and timely.
• Assist patients and visitors with information and solutions to problems.
• Serve as resources to support department members in performing duties.

• Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.
• Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
• Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.
• Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
• Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.
• Follows through on delegated patient care activities.
• Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
• Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
• Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
• Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
