ThedaCare – Appleton, WI is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support nursing teams under supervision. This role provides patient-centered care, assisting with daily activities, and ensuring safety and comfort for patients during night shifts.

Under supervision, you will perform ECGs, phlebotomy, vital signs checks, and collaborate with the care team to achieve high-quality outcomes. Eligible for benefits with part-time status.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• American Heart Association BLS or Wisconsin LPN licensure.
• Ability to move and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Summary

Under the supervision of the LPN, RN, or nurse leader, the Patient Care Tech (PCT) performs patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient. Through collaborative practice with all members of the care team, is responsible for patient outcomes that meet the high quality of care provided by ThedaCare. Contributes to the goals of the department by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate, safe care and demonstrated commitment to continuous growth and professional development.

Job Description:

SCHEDULE

Part time, benefit eligible 24 hrs/week NOC shifts, (5:30pm-6:00am) Every 3rd weekend Sat/Sun Holiday rotation

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• 1. Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served.
• 2. Checks patients’ vital signs, height, and weight, as needed, based on patient type.
• 3. Provides compassionate care and listens to patients’ concerns and guides them by answering any questions or concerns.
• 4. Identifies and escalates changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis.
• 5. Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports to care team.
• 6. Repositions, transfers, ambulates and transports patients.
• 7. Assists patients with basic needs (such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing).
• 8. Obtains and reports patient intake and output.
• 9. Performs electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed.
• 10. Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• 11. Provides care that is age appropriate, culturally specific, and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety.
• 12. Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required Previous healthcare experience preferred American Heart Association HealthCare Provider Life Support (BLS) -Or- Current Wisconsin LPN Licensure American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform patient care procedures

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock Occasional high noise level in work environment Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients .
