Job description

Purpose and Scope:

Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe environment, and supporting quality improvement activities to meet organizational goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Related

Education: Assist in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures and disease management.

Treatment: Welcome patients, evaluate vascular access, perform cannulation, monitor response to therapy, and document all treatment activities accurately. Ensure safety alarms are active and respond to any patient or machine issues promptly.

Record Keeping: Document treatment data, participate in CQI activities, and ensure proper charting and specimen collection.

Infection Control and Transitional Care:

Support infection control practices and assist in transitional care for new patients, including education and coordination of treatment options.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:

Describe physical requirements, including lifting, standing, and exposure risks, with accommodations as needed.

Education and Licenses:

High school diploma or G.E.D., with required certifications and licensure as per state and federal regulations.

Experience and Skills:

Preferred previous patient care experience; completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.

Acknowledgement:

Employee acknowledgment of understanding and ability to perform essential duties, with space for signatures and dates.
