Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to deliver compassionate bedside care and assist with daily activities. You will support RNs by taking vitals, ensuring patient safety, and helping with meals, mobility, and hygiene in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role emphasizes patient experience, teamwork, and adherence to infection control and safety protocols. Part-time night shifts rotate every third weekend and holidays, with two 12-hour shifts weekly.

Qualifications

• Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate patient care and safety procedures.
• Ability to monitor patients and report changes to the RN promptly.
• Proficiency in basic math and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, and help with walking and activities of daily living.
• Assist with baths, linen changes, and gowning while maintaining dignity.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to the bedside RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts and alarms; stay within arm's reach as needed.

  Position Overview:

  
  

  As a bedside caregiver, IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (also known as a Patient Care Assistant or PCA) who will provide a phenomenal patient experience by anticipating the needs of patients such as providing drinks, assisting with meal ordering, encouraging walking, assisting with baths, and providing clean linens and gowns.
  
  Our PCA's have compassion for our patients, a caring bedside manner, and an ability to work in a fast paced environment. They will provide clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes in a patient's behavior to the primary RN or charge nurse in order to detect and provide rapid treatment. A PCA always keeps patients safe by utilizing safety measures such as gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and staying within arm's reach of patients when moving around.   • Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
