Job summary

Endeavor Health’s Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, IL is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Orthopedic Unit (Days). The role is full time, 36 hours per week, with a 7:00am–7:30pm schedule on three 12-hour shifts and alternating weekends/holidays.

Orientation starts Monday–Thursday for about 8:00am–4:30pm during the first week. The position requires a high school diploma, CNA/EMT/paramedic training or active nursing program enrollment with clinical rotations, and CPR

Qualifications

• High school education is required.
• CNA certification, EMT or paramedic training or active nursing program enrollment with clinical rotations required.
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with personal care tasks and activities of daily living under RN/LPN supervision.
• Support patient mobility and comfort using proper body mechanics.
• Record vital signs, I&O, accu-checks and report abnormalities to the nurse.
• Assist with admitting, discharging, transporting and answering unit phones as directed.

Hourly Pay Range:

$18.84 - $27.32 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

Position : Patient Care Technician - Orthopedic Unit - Days

Location : Northwest Community Hospital - Arlington Heights, IL

Full Time | 36 hours/week

Must be able to attend a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Orientation from about 8:00am - 4:30pm, during the first week of employment.

Hours : 7:00am - 7:30pm (3 - 12 hour shifts), every other weekend and holidays required .

What you will do:

• Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Assists with exercising and ambulating patient; utilizes correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of patient under supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports abnormalities to the nurse. As directed by RN/LPN performs procedures such as EKG's, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc. Collects specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary. Documents basic patient care into electronic medical record.
• Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed. Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties. May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.

What you will need:

• Education : The level of knowledge normally obtained through the completion of high school, required
• Certification/License : Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with the completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association, required .
