Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Ortho/Med Surg Unit 1 East in Norfolk, VA. This full‑time dayshift role (approximately 6a–6p) requires every 3rd weekend and supports orthopedic and med/surg patients with mobility and care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (required within 90 days)
• BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire
• CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, or Navy Hospital Corps School are acceptable credentials
• EMR/EMS/EMT/AEMT/Paramedic experience or coursework considered
• Current student in clinical RN/LPN/RT/PT program with at least one completed semester
• Recent health care experience as PCT or Nursing Assistant within last three years

Overview

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician on the Ortho/Med Surg Unit 1 East to work at Sentara Leigh Hospital located in Norfolk.

Hours/Shift: Full-time, dayshift, Approximately 6a-6p with every 3rd weekend requirement.

Department/Position Overview: This 24-bed unit works with patients that have had Orthopedic Surgery and med/surg patients as needed. The majority of our patients have had joint replacements, spine surgery or hand surgery. The ortho techs on the unit will also be assisting with the mobility of the patients. You will receive specialized ortho training on the best practices of caring for these types of patients. We welcome interviewed applicants to shadow the unit to see what we are all about. Patient Care Technicians Role

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent Certification/Licensure American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.

Minimum Requirements

Must have one of the following:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program


• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)


• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)


• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)


• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School


• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic


• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT


• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

Experience

One year of prior health care experience preferred.

Compensation

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $18.93 - $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
