Job summary

Sentara Healthcare Inc. seeks a Patient Care Technician for a full-time day shift. You will assist nurses with basic patient care, monitor conditions, support admissions and discharges, and uphold safety practices under supervision.

A HS diploma is required and one of the listed certifications or active clinical coursework must be met. Prior PCT or CNA experience is a plus; on-the-job training will be provided to ensure patient safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Must have a HS Diploma and one of the listed certifications or active clinical coursework.
• Candidates with PCT or Nursing Assistant experience are preferred.
• Certifications may be in CNA, NCMA, NCPCT or Navy Hospital Corps EMS/EMR/EMT/Paramedic.
• Current students in a clinical program with at least one semester completed may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurses with basic patient care under direct supervision.

• Observe patients and report changes in condition to the nurse.

Patient Care Technician - Full-Time - Day Shift

Overview

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.

Education

Certification/Licensure

Must have a HS Diploma and one of the following:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program

• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)

• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic

• Current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT)

• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
