Job summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) provides front-line patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports to the Nurse Manager. The role supports a decentralized patient-centered approach to care across the Neurosciences ICU and related units.

Minimum education includes a high school diploma or equivalent, with progression possible via further degrees or healthcare certifications.

Minimum Training and Education

• Patient Care Technician I: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Patient Care Technician II: High school diploma/GED and ONE of the following requirements must be met.
• Associate or Bachelor's degree
• At least 1 year work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS
• 1 year of experience in a healthcare facility
• Active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution
• Active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution
• Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
