Education And Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• AHA BLS provider certification course required within 90 days from date of hire.
• Minimum of three (3) months experience as a PCT or currently in a junior semester of an Associates or Bachelor’s nursing program.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• General knowledge of high school subject matter including sciences, simple medical procedures/terminology, and office equipment.
• BLS certification is required 90 days from date of hire.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assists in the delivery of patient care by performing, specific patient care tasks per scope of service and as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges and transport of patients.
• Obtains and records vital signs, weights, and blood glucose testing; reports abnormalities and condition changes to the primary nurse promptly.
• Demonstrates competence in advanced skills such as oral suctioning, dressing changes after an RN assessment, tube feeding setup, external catheter, post-mortem care and suction canister setup.
• Communicates effectively with the health care team; documents legibly on hospital forms and participates in shift handoffs and rounds.
• Provides personalized care to patients and families; documents special needs as appropriate.
• Utilizes educational materials and attends mandatory in-services to maintain unit competencies.
• Uses materials, equipment and time in a safe, therapeutic and cost-effective manner.
• Assists with code situations under direction of the Code Blue Team.
• Adheres to infection control and safety policies, including using two identifiers when taking samples or performing procedures.
• Maintains cleanliness of the unit and related areas as requested.

• Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Performs other duties as required.
