The role includes assisting with ambulation, vital signs, hygiene, and documentation, plus clerical tasks and coordination with multiple hospital departments to ensure quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • 6 months Experience in a healthcare related field or actively enrolled in a pre-nursing or nursing program and pursuing a nursing degree. Required

Responsibilities

  • Assists with ambulating and mobilization of patients, taking and recording vital signs (BP, Temp, Pulse, Respirations, SpO2); weighing patients; assisting with personal hygiene.
  • Assists with bedpans and toileting, catheter care, empty drains, turning bedridden patients, linen changes, meal preparation and feeding.
  • Answers call lights and relays pertinent information to the nurse; assists with transfer and discharge communications.
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation of data collected and assists with clerical duties to support the healthcare team.
  • Maintains department supplies/inventory and operates the order communication system.

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of licensed personnel, the Patient Care Technician II through communication, requisitioning, and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, patient, physician, other hospital departments and visitors. The position performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.

Responsibilities
  • Performs responsibilities that may include, but is not limited to assisting with ambulating and mobilization of patients, taking and recording the patient’s vital signs (i.e., BP, Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, & O2 sat), weighing patients, assisting with personal hygiene / AM Care (i.e., Oral Care, Bathing the patient, etc.), assisting with bedpans and toileting, catheter care, empty drains, turning bedridden patients or patients that need assistance with turning, linen changes, assisting with meal preparation, feeding patients, I&O, light cleaning and organizing of patients room, answering call lights, and relaying pertinent information to the nurse.
  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the department/division, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed including sitting with patients and sitting with Baker acted patients.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of data collected.
  • Assumes clerical duties necessary to assist the healthcare team to provide patient care.
  • Receives and directs phone calls and serves as the receptionist for the department.
  • Maintains supplies/inventory for department.
  • Uses computer system to locate orders, retrieves patient information, calls STAT and cancels orders, and prints daily census. Follows "Down Time" procedures. Operates order communication system.
  • Files reports and necessary forms in patient charts. Communicates and assists with transferring and discharging patients including notify appropriate area.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit to facility meeting goals and objectives.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) within 90 Days Required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of acceptable ranges of blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation and EKG.
  • Ability to document and utilize electronic health record applications.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with confidential information.
