Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct patient care and support the nursing team in an inpatient setting in Pittsburgh. You will assist with basic nursing procedures, monitor vitals, collect specimens, perform phlebotomy when needed, and document in the electronic medical record under supervision.
The role requires completing a nursing program, high school diploma or GED, and knowledge of patient privacy and safety standards.
This job provides direct care to patients and assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination. The incumbent is expected to perform basic nursing procedures related to the care and comfort of patients in stable condition, and have knowledge of patient population needs in the assigned work area. They are expected to assist the RN in the care of acutely ill patients. They practice medical asepsis, respect the dignity and privacy of every patient and family, and maintain objectivity during patient care. They adhere to all basic hospital policies and procedures, respond appropriately during emergency situations, maintain the patient/family environment, and perform general unit upkeep. They use accurate verbal and written communication, document patient care appropriately in the electronic medical record, and work under the general and direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. They follow work assignments from the Charge Nurse and/or Care Team Leader, demonstrate efficient time management, and perform a variety of duties related to the coordination of activities on the inpatient unit, including patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
