Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston, Texas, is seeking a Patient Care Technician I for the TDCJ Surgery unit. The role provides basic technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients across assigned areas, under supervision.

The position requires completion of an eligible technical program or equivalent experience, and BLS certification is mandatory. Candidates may have completed Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Medical Corpsman, EMT, or UTMB Aide training

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent AND completion of one of the listed technical programs
• BLS certification is required
• Optionally two years of direct patient care experience or active certification as MA/PCT/CNA at time of hire
• Enrollment in a recognized School of Nursing with first semester clinical concepts required/covered

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

High school or equivalent AND completion of one of the following technical programs:

• Completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant program OR
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR
• Completion of Medical Corpsman program OR
• Completion of EMT program OR
• Completion of a UTMB Hospital Aide Training Program OR
• Two (2) years of experience in a direct patient care environment OR
• Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire OR
• Is enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing and has completed the first semester of education which contains clinical concepts and health assessment or the equivalent.
