Job summary

Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA, is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Medicine Unit (4 James) to support licensed nurses with delegated care tasks. Days shift, first shift, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and may hold CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or related certs, or be enrolled in a clinical program with nursing assistant experience. The role involves blood draws, EKGs, ADLs, Foley, and ambulation support.

Qualifications

• High School/GED or equivalent required.
• Graduate of CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or other approved programs also acceptable.
• Current student in a clinical program with nursing assistant experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nurses by providing delegated patient care tasks on the Medicine Unit.
• Perform patient care activities including vitals, ADLs assistance, and basic procedures as trained.
• Support a compassionate, flexible team focused on safety and quality for adults 18+.

The Patient Care Technician is an unlicensed staff member who is accountable to and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care.

Requirements

One of the following programs is acceptable for education: Graduate of Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

The Medicine Unit - 4 James is looking for qualified nurses who will provide care to acute and chronic care patients with a variety of comorbidities from the age of 18 years of age and up, with a special love for our senior population. We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $18.93 - $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
