Job summary

Avera Dells Area Health Hospital is seeking a Regular shift healthcare aide to provide routine patient care under nurse and physician direction. The role covers 12-hour night shifts, with rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, in a 48-hours/2-weeks schedule.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, ambulation, nutrition, calling lights, and coordination of diagnostic and therapy services, while maintaining clean patient rooms and efficient unit flow.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required/licensed as applicable.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine patient care under nurse or physician direction.
• Assist with ambulating, bathing, positioning and measuring outputs.
• Enter diet information into computer systems and pass meal trays.
• Respond to patient call lights and assist with needs promptly.
• Greet patients and visitors, answer inquiries, relay messages as needed.
• Ambulate patients, help in/out of wheelchairs, transport when required.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and chart preparation.
• Coordinate appointments and prepare requisitions for services.
• Maintain orderly patient rooms and handle routine cleaning tasks.
• Assist with stocking and equipment maintenance as directed.

A Brief Overview

Responsible for providing routine patient care and support services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the nurse or physician, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.

What you will do

• Provides safe and direct patient care: ambulating, bathing, positioning, entering diet information into the computer system, passing meal trays, feeding and attending to other care needs.
• Responds promptly to patient call lights and special needs, ensures that patient valuables and personal items are properly handled and accounted for.
• Greets all persons coming to the area assigned, answer inquiries, may direct and assist them, take and relay messages, assist with gifts, flowers, and mail for patients, run errands for department staff.
• Ambulates patients and assist them in and out of wheelchairs, measures intakes and outputs, may collect specimens and transport patients as needed.
• Answers telephone, operates paging system, and attends station and direct traffic during emergencies.
• Prepares requisitions for diagnostic and therapeutic services patients as directed and coordinate appointments with respective departments.
• Makes outpatient appointments for discharging patients.
• Requisition of supplies and equipment, maintenance and repairs services and prepares related forms.
• Requests services such as the following as directed: Chaplain, social services, and pastoral care.
• Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, preparing appropriate charts and forms, transfer, and death.
• Manages interdepartmental and patient mail.
• Maintains patient rooms in an orderly condition, changes bed linens and provides routine cleaning tasks.

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• High School or GED Equivalent
