Endeavor Health (Arlington Heights) is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Medical Surgical Unit on nights. Located in Arlington Heights, IL, the role is full-time (36 hours/week) with orientation and night shifts.

Responsibilities include assisting patients with personal care, mobility, vital signs, specimen collection, and documentation in the EMR under RN/LPN supervision. CPR certification and CNA credentials are required; EMT/paramedic training or nursing rotations strengthen candidacy.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited CNA course and the CNA certification exam
• Current CPR certification from American Heart Association
• Must complete CNA or EMT/paramedics training or be enrolled in nursing program with clinical rotation
• High school education is required

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal care under RN/LPN supervision
• Assist with patient mobility and safe body mechanics
• Obtain and report vital signs, input/output checks, and accu-checks
• Perform procedures as directed by RN/LPN (EKG, perineal care, Foley bag care, restraints, backrubs)
• Collect specimens and deliver to appropriate locations
• Document care in electronic medical records
• Assist with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, and transporting patients
• Answer unit phones and direct calls as needed
• May perform Observation Assistant duties as assigned

Hourly Pay Range: $19.71 - $28.58 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights

Position: Patient Care Technician - Medical Surgical Unit– Nights
Location: Arlington Heights, IL
Full time: 36 hours per week
Must be able to attend a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Orientation from about 8:00am-4:30pm on the week of starting.
Hours: 7:00pm-7:30am, Every other weekend required
Required Travel: No

What you will do

• Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Assists with exercising and ambulating patient; utilizes correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of patient under supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
• As directed by RN/LPN performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc.
• Collects specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
• Documents basic patient care into electronic medical record.
• Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
• Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.
• May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.

What you will need

• The level of knowledge normally obtained through the completion of high school
• Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with the completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association
