Job summary

MEDRVA Healthcare in Richmond, VA is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will assist nursing staff in pre-op, post-op, and operating room areas, transport patients, and help maintain a clean, safe ASC environment.

Must have strong medical terminology knowledge; CNA licensing is preferred. Ambulatory service experience is also preferred.

  • Supports HIPAA compliance and protects patient information.

Description

The Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Assists nursing staff, as needed in the pre-op, post-op, and operating room and endoscopy areas. Transports patients to other areas of the ASC and to their cars as required. Maintains safety and the overall cleanliness of the ASC as needed.

Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists the nursing staff in all areas, as needed, in indirect patient care.
  • Transports patients throughout the facility and to their cars as needed via wheelchair or stretcher.
  • Assists with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and preparing stretchers and room turnover between patient use, following all equipment and germicidal procedures. Assists with OR trash removal.
  • Reports to maintenance or other appropriate personnel the need for repair of departmental equipment and environmental issues to ensure patient, employee, and physician safety.
  • Assembles and prepares supplies and other equipment as requested.
  • Help transport patients to and from the Operating Room.
  • Help turn rooms over, assist with trash and linen disposal, change circuits, mop the floors if requested.
  • Receiving the laundry order and putting it in the appropriate areas. Keep pre and post-op area stocked with linen.
  • Check Operating Room at the end of each day to ensure lights, gasses, and anesthesia machines are all off.
  • Assist in the terminal cleaning of the OR when requested.
  • Clean pathology lab after frozen sections have been performed. Consists of cleaning machine, wiping down room and changing liquids as needed, wiping down counters and cleaning instruments.
  • Follow checklist in pathology room.
  • Demonstrates and adheres to SPSC Mission, Vision and Value Statements.
  • Protects and maintains confidentiality of information; provides information on a need to know basis; adheres to all HIPAA compliance practices.
  • Treats all patients with actions that contribute to high levels of patients' service.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking questions when clarification is needed.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-services.
  • Follows fire/emergency safety, hazard communications and infection control procedures.
  • Observes cost containment practices
  • Respects and complies with all decisions made by the CEO, COO and the CNO.
Required Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Must have strong knowledge of medical terminology, supplies and equipment.
  • Endoscopy knowledge and training preferred.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ambulatory service experience preferred
  • CNA licensing preferred
