WellNow Urgent Care is hiring a Patient Care Technician to support front-end and clinical operations, ensuring smooth patient flow and accurate documentation. You will collect vital signs, perform phlebotomy if certified, handle lab paperwork, and assist providers with exams and testing while adhering to HIPAA and high patient care standards.

Qualifications

• 6+ months experience as Patient Care Technician or similar role.
• Preferred Urgent Care, Occupational Medicine, and/or Phlebotomy experience.
• CPR certification required.
• EMR data entry proficiency.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Take patient history and obtain vital signs.
• Perform phlebotomy if certified and collect lab samples.
• Complete lab paperwork and orders in the EMR.
• Perform point-of-care tests (e.g., strep, influenza, glucose).
• Coordinate patient records for ancillary care.
• Assist providers with exams and testing.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
• Ensure exam rooms are stocked and equipment is functional.
• Document patient history and examinations in the provider's notes.

Essential Job Functions:

Patient Care Responsibilities:

• Responsible for taking patient history and obtain vital signs.
• Perform necessary phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples, if certified.
• Accurately complete corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue and culture samples.
• Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels.
• Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients.
• Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D’s and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation, EKG).
• Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA).
• Ensures equipment is in working order.
• Logs laboratory procedures when completed, processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.
• Maintains examination rooms and stocks necessary medical supplies.
• Performs duties to ensure good patient flow.
• Accompanies the provider to the bedside.
• Performs tasks to improve provider efficiency during the course of a shift.
• Document the provider dictated patient history including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications and allergies.
• Document patient medical history, physical examination findings, and procedures as performed by the provider.
• Committed to the specialty of Urgent Care, with a focus on serving our communities with quick, convenient and quality care with continued clinical and patient experience training.

Reception Responsibilities:

• Explain to patients what insurances that are accepted and those that are out of network as well knowledgeable of all pricing.
• Greets patients and completes registration process in a timely manner.
• Answers and appropriately triages phone calls.
• Collects patient responsibility for visits.
• Printing, scanning, and faxing reports.
• Cleaning of the clinic before, during, and after shift.

Occupational Medicine Responsibilities:

• Ensures accurate completion and timely scanning of all required Occupational Medicine documentation into the EMR system, maintaining compliance with company protocols and regulatory standards.
• Completes the following Occupational Medicine testing:
  • Urine Drug Screens.
  • Breath Alcohol Testing.
  • Hair Collection Drug Screens.
  • DOT & Non-DOT Physicals.
  • Vision and Audio Testing.
  • Pulmonary Function Testing.
  • Audiograms.

Minimum Requirements:

• 6+ months of experience as a Patient Care Technician or similar role; OR equivalent education/certification in a related healthcare specialty.
• Preferred experience in Urgent Care, Occupational Medicine, and/or Phlebotomy.
• Ability to identify equipment problems and correcting or notifying team leader.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients, and families.
• Computer knowledge and skills, must be able to register patients on the computer in a timely manner; including use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Ability to complete and maintain CPR certification.
• Excellent listening and note-taking skills.
• Ability to apply written instructions and standardize work practices.
• Strong communication skills, including grammatical, spelling and verbal.
• Detail-oriented with proven ability to work effectively under conditions requiring accuracy.
• Capable of working well on a team.
• Friendly and customer service oriented.
• Ability to manage high call and patient volume.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Preferred License Or Certification:

• EMT Basic certification.
• Medical Assistant certification through one of the following programs:
  • Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcare Association.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Technologists.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists.
