Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech IHR to support RN-led patient care in the Illinois facilities. You will perform basic nursing care activities, monitor vital signs, assist with ADLs, and help maintain a clean, organized patient environment.

The role requires responsiveness to changing unit needs and effective collaboration with nursing staff and other departments. Applicants may be nursing students who completed one clinical rotation, or a CNA/CMA/EMT, with CPR/BLS

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Nursing students who have completed one clinical rotation, or CNA/CMA or EMT certification.
• CPR – Basic Life Support required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Assists with keeping patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking. Able to function under stressful situations.
• Utilizes critical thinking skills to prioritize and complete unit work as needs change.
• Serves as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom and call lights politely and communicates information to staff/family/patient.
• Manages overall unit workflow with charge RN/assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists.
