Intermountain Health seeks a Patient Care Technician to support our patient care team at Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi. After training, there is potential for night shifts and part-time options, with a 10% differential in the resource pool.

The role requires CNA certification in Utah, BLS for healthcare providers, and strong communication. You will document care, assist with daily living activities, and collaborate closely with RNs and the care team.

Qualifications

  • Current CNA certification in Utah or completion within 120 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic patient care (toileting, bathing, linen changes, feeding, ambulation)
  • Report patient care findings and changes promptly to RN
  • Monitor patients, respond to care needs, and support the team
  • Transport medications to RN as needed on unit
  • Collaborate with RN and interdisciplinary team for optimal care
  • May handle health unit coordination tasks (phones, orders, unit records)
  • Follow plan of care and safety policies, participate in emergency actions

Job Description:The Patient Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner, assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Additionally, the Patient Care Technician may assume the responsibilities of a Health Unit Coordinator.Job DescriptionEssential FunctionsPrioritize and deliver basic patient care, including toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs, while providing excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed.May perform telemetry duties as required based on the unit, and function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patients, addressing patient care needs, and collaborating with other members of the patient care team as required.Transport medications from the delivery system to the RN as required when working on a clinical unit.Collaborate and consult with the RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.May assume the responsibilities of a health unit coordinator, including answering phones, transcribing physician orders, managing unit records, organizing, stocking, and maintaining unit supplies.Implements plan of care as delegated.Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice. Training will be day shifts. After training, option to work night shifts and option to move to part time.Additional Details: This position is covering our Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi and Taylorsville, including behavioral health units. When working in the resource pool you will receive a 10% differential. This position also qualifies for night and weekend shift differentials.Minimum QualificationsCurrent Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice.Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.At the time of hire, Utah candidates must meet one of the following:Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in the state of Utah.If CNA certificate is expired, must be renewed before start date.Completion of a recent Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program.Verification of CNA program completion is required (program must have been completed within the past (1) year).CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing Course.Must have earned a passing grade within the past two (2) years. Official transcript is required.CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.Preferred QualificationsPrior CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.Current enrollment in nursing school program.Physical RequirementsOngoing need for employees to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employees to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
