Job Summary

This dual role position will be trained in both essential job functions/responsibilities for flexibility to meet department needs as directed by the RN. The unit secretary assists with clerical and administrative duties, while the patient care technician assists with patient care and department activities as directed by the RN. Employees are expected to know, promote, and support Cameron’s Guiding Principles and Values.

Essential Job Functions

• Interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact with patients and caregivers.
• Assist patients with activities of daily life (bathing, dressing, eating, walking, toileting).
• Use unit equipment such as scales, beds, patient lifts, and vital sign monitors.
• Collect blood specimens when trained.
• Input information into patient electronic medical records.
• Inform RN supervisor of abnormal patient assessments.
• Participate in monitoring that patient safety processes are in place.
• Demonstrate age-specific clinical competence, including knowledge of growth and development for child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, and ability to perform CPR techniques and activities of daily living.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED acceptable).
• Previous experience as a patient care tech and/or unit secretary preferred, though no prior specialty experience required.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) within one month of hire; active CPR/BLS certification required within first 30 days.
• Excellent communication skills with strong patient relations.
