Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician for our Primary Care unit in Tampa. This part-time role supports direct and indirect patient care under licensed nursing staff in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, documenting care, upholding safety and infection prevention, and reporting changes to nurses. A valid FL CNA license or active enrollment in an ASN/BSN program is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant license issued by Florida Department of Health (FL DOH) is required.
• Nursing students must be actively enrolled in an ASN or BSN program and have completed Fundamentals of Nursing.

• Provide direct patient care assistance including activities of daily living, mobility, hygiene, safety, and comfort.
• Assist licensed nursing staff with delegated patient care activities and observe patient condition, reporting changes to licensed staff.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to patient care activities.
• Support patient safety, infection prevention, and environmental cleanliness standards.
• Respond to emergencies per escalation procedures.
• Prioritize tasks and use resources effectively in a high-acuity clinical environment.

Description

The Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care services under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. The role supports the delivery of safe, timely, and patient-centered care by assisting with basic clinical and supportive care needs in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment. The Patient Care Technician practices in alignment with organizational values, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

• Provide direct patient care assistance, including support with activities of daily living, mobility, hygiene, safety, and comfort measures.
• Assist licensed nursing staff with delegated patient care activities according to established clinical protocols. Observe patient condition and promptly report changes or concerns to licensed nursing staff.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to patient care activities.
• Support patient safety, infection prevention, and environmental cleanliness standards.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations and follow escalation procedures.
• Prioritize assigned tasks and utilize resources effectively in a high-acuity clinical environment.
