Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Uptown is seeking a Patient Care Technician to organize and direct pre-admission activities in line with nursing standards and regulatory guidelines.

You will contact physicians and patients before surgery, perform EKGs, review charts, and provide pre-operative instructions; you’ll support registration and ensure accuracy of documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or higher required.
  • Previous clinical experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Excellent communication skills needed.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • CNA certification preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Ability to perform EKGs and obtain vital signs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate pre-admission activities with nursing and physicians.
  • Perform EKG per doctor’s orders.
  • Review patient charts for labs, x-ray, and EKG.
  • Provide pre-operative instructions to patients.
  • Assist in registration of Pre-Admission patients.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and ready prior to service.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Uptown is searching to hire a Patient Care Technician.
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint venture surgical hospital between Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), United Surgical Partners International (USPI), and local physicians. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center- Uptown provides a wide range of medical and surgical services for to the greater North Texas area across 8 ORs, 24 private Inpatient rooms, a full-service ED. The hospital specializes in both inpatient and outpatient procedures in Orthopedics, Joint Replacement, Spine, General, Bariatrics, Surgical Oncology, ENT, Reconstructive Surgery, and other surgical specialties.
The Pre-Admission Technician has the responsibility for organizing and directing activities in accordance with nursing standards, Joint Commission, Medicare and all other applicable federal, state and local guidelines. The position is responsible but not limited to the following duties.

  • Assumes responsibility for the contacting, by way of telephone, physician offices, physicians, and patients prior to date of surgery.
  • Performs EKG per doctor’s orders.
  • Review patient charts for appropriate lab, x-ray, and EKG.
  • Supply physician offices with the results of all lab, x-ray, and EKG reports via fax, e-mail or e-fax.
  • Ensure that all appropriate orders, consents, medical and medication histories, and testing results are completed and in the patient’s chart prior to the date of service.
  • Communicate abnormal results and medical issues to the appropriate personnel and physicians.
  • Provide pre-operative instructions pertaining to the individual and treatment to be provided.
  • Answer patient and physician’s office questions.
  • Provide clinical documentation.
  • Assist in registration of Pre-Admission patients
Required Skills:
  • High School graduate or higher.
  • Previous clinical experience strongly preferred.
  • Current BLS certification
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • CNA preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient
  • Perform EKGs with competency on file.
  • Obtain Vital Signs with competency on file
