Patient Care Tech-PCT role at Mercy
Under the direction of the RN or LPN, this position assists in the individualized care of patients to achieve the highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team, recognizes the importance of group goals, and performs designated clinical procedures and non‑clinical support tasks essential to providing care.
Position Details
- Location: Mercy Hospital South, 10010 Kennerly Rd, St. Louis, MO 63128
- Shift: Full‑Time | 36 hours/week
- Hours: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (Night Shift)
- Sign‑On Bonus: Up to $3,000 paid at 3, 6, and 12 months

Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma, GED, CNA/CPTC, or current enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school curriculum.
- Current Mercy co‑workers are also eligible.
- No prior experience required – Mercy provides a 175‑hour paid training program that meets state Department of Health and Senior Services requirements; must be completed within 90 days of hire.
- Licensure & Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire.
- Completion of PCA competencies required within three months of hire.
- Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift.
- Must be able to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform patient care tasks.
- Other Requirements:
- Strong time management and clinical judgment.
- Flexibility with assignments and willingness to work as part of a collaborative team.
- Commitment to maintaining compliance with required certifications and training.
- Job Duties:
- Opportunity for advancement through career ladder to Patient Care Technician (PCT) and/or beyond.
- Responsibilities for Patient Care Associate (PCA)
- Obtain vital signs and document into the electronic medical records system.
- Assist with patient care needs including meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, patient mobility, and transport.
- Clerical support duties, as needed.
- Responsibilities for Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- PCA job duties.
- Phlebotomy/blood cultures.
- Enteral feeding.
- Wound care.
- IV/Foley removal.
- Trach care/suctioning.
