Job summary

Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, MO is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician to assist with nursing care under the supervision of the RN/Charge Nurse. You will perform essential patient care tasks, monitor vitals and support patient comfort and safety.

Preferred CNA or EMT certification, high school diploma or equivalent, and BLS certification. Strong customer service, reliability, and teamwork are essential; willingness to serve as a sitter after training and to follow

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • CNA or EMT certification preferred; equivalent nursing assistant experience acceptable.
  • Current AHA BLS certification required (can be obtained after hire).
  • Must be self-motivated and follow hospital policies.
  • Willingness to serve as sitter after required training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care such as bathing, ambulation and transfers, and vitals.
  • Provide positive customer service relations and support.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives and promote department improvements.
  • Support co-workers as needed and maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned.

A Patient Care Tech assists with nursing care, performs job functions according to specific age and/or developmental needs, and works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Charge Nurse of the unit.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate knowledge in patient care i.e.: bathing patients, assisting patients with ambulation and/or transfers, vital signs, and other patient care.
  • Demonstrate positive customer service relations.
  • Routinely participates in Quality Improvement projects and encourages the department to continuously improve.
  • Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
  • Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Certification as Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred. Equivalent experience as a nursing assistant, or 6 months of experience in the medical field, or a current nursing student that has completed the Fundamentals of Nursing is acceptable in lieu of certification.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required (can obtain after hire).
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
  • Expected to serve as sitters as needed, following the successful completion of designated sitter education and training provided.
Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 12 hours a day.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs.
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
